Berhampur: A woman consumed poison in front of Chatrapur Police Station in Ganjam district on Tuesday after a meeting held on the premises of the police station to resolve their family dispute failed.
The woman identified as Jhili Patra, wife of Muna Patra of Mahaveer Nagar in Chatrapur, was being tortured by her in-laws for dowry. She along with her husband had lodged a complaint in this regard at Chatrapur Police Station on August 2.
As the police did not take any action after repeated complaints, a counseling meeting was held on the premises of the police station today. As it failed, Jhili consumed rat poison. She was rescued by Chatrapur Police and admitted to a local hospital.
