Cuttack: A joint task force (JTF) will be set up to prevent and probe elephant death cases in the State, which has seen a rising graph lately.
According to an affidavit filed by the DG Police in Orissa High Court, the JTF will comprise of officials and wildlife experts from the State Police and Forest Department personnel.
The DGP’s affidavit was filed in connection with a petition filed in the Orissa High Court on elephant deaths in the State. Apart from checking elephant deaths, the JTF will also prevent the trafficking of wild animals and banned wildlife products.
The next hearing in this matter will be held on September 26. The State police will present facts and figures on elephant deaths in the next hearing.
