Paradip: Coast Guard District Headquarters, No.7, Odisha, conducted a two days Pollution Response workshop for all stakeholders in the state of Odisha on 24-25 August. The workshop was attended by representatives of various agencies i.e Paradip Port Authority, Dhamra Port, Gopalpur Port, BPCL, HPCL, IOCL, and Odisha State Pollution Control Board.
Indian Coast Guard is the Nodal agency in the country for combating pollution. The aim of the workshop was to improve coordination and enhance readiness amongst various agencies towards combating oil pollution at sea and thus safeguarding the coastline of Odisha.
The workshop was inaugurated by DIG Y K Singh, Commander Coast Guard District Odisha. Speaking on the occasion, the District Commander welcomed and thanked all agencies for participating in the workshop. He said such workshops will improve the cohesiveness, preparedness, and response amongst all stakeholders towards marine oil pollution.
The first day of the workshop had representation and discussions on relevant topics by representatives of the participating agencies. A tabletop exercise for all stakeholders was conducted on the second day, which was followed by a pollution response demonstration onboard Coast Guard ship Varad and MV Elegance in coordination with Paradip Port Authority.
This workshop provided hands-on understanding to the participants of all resources agencies to collaborate and migrate any future Oil Spill contingency at sea.
