Koraput: A Section Engineer and a Gangman were placed under suspension following the derailment of a passenger train near Jeypore Umuri Bridge on Monday afternoon.
The train coming from Vishakhapatnam was moving towards Jagdalpur when the mishap took place and four bogies were derailed.
“There have been no casualties or injuries. All passengers are safe. Train movement on Koraput – Jagdalpur line has been restored. The affected train will also move to its destination shortly,” Anup Kumar Satpathy, Divisional Railway Manager of Vishakhapatnam Division of East Coast Railway, said.
Satpathy said that maintenance work was underway in the same section where the incident occured. “There are chances of negligence which led to the incident. We have placed an Engineer and the Gangman under suspension and ordered an inquiry,”
There were around 50 to 60 passengers in the bogies which went off the rails. Rescue teams accompanied by doctors and paramedics rushed to the spot following the incident.
