Khordha: An Income Tax Officer (ITO) Suman Sundar Sahoo was caught by a team of CBI officials while he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the owner of a jewellery shop owner.
The CBI team has seized Rs 5 lakh from Sahoo’s possession and have taken him to the CBI’s office at Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, ITO Sahoo had demanded Rs 40 lakh from Debendra Sahu, proprietor of Shanti Jeweller located in Marwadi Patti here.
Earlier, Sahoo had taken gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh, and Rs 5 lakh in two phases from Shanti Jeweller’s proprietor.
Sahoo was caught by the CBI while he was taking Rs 5 lakh from Shanti Jeweller’s proprietor at his (ITO Sahoo’s) residence.
The CBI has seized several important documents from Sahoo’s residence.
