Bhubaneswar: The Hockey Association of Odisha State Sub-Junior Men Hockey Championships semi-finals produced two hard-fought contests with Sundargarh beating Dhenkanal 3-1 and the home team KIIT/KISS University getting the better of Deogarh by 2-0.
The stage is now set for the finals of the first-ever Sub-Junior Men Championships conducted by the Hockey Association of Odisha. Sundargarh will take on KIIT/KISS at 5 PM to decide the Best Sub-Junior Men Hockey Team in Odisha. Deogarh will take on Dhenkanal for the 3rd/4th place match.
Over 500 players from districts, academies, and institutions participated in the championship making it one of the most successful state-level hockey competitions to be organized.
Speaking on the Semi-Finals result, President of Hockey Association of Odisha and Chairman Hockey Promotion Council, Dilip Tirkey said, “We had two very closely contested games and it was great to see our players playing such high-level hockey in the pressure situations. Competitions like these will surely give these young players a platform to showcase their talent and enable them to continue the history and legacy of the game going forward.”
The tournament will look to scout talent that will represent Odisha at the next Hockey India National Championships in 2023. The 3rd/4th match is scheduled to be at 3:30 PM and the finals will commence at 5 PM. Both games will be held at the Hockey Ground, Campus-13, KIIT University.
