Bhadrak: A fishing boat caught fire mid-sea off Dhamra coast here on Thursday. However, 10 fishermen onboard escaped narrowly as another boat in the vicinity came to their rescue. The fishermen on the other boat facilitated the rescue of the 10 persons from the ill-fated vessel.
The incident caught at a small distance from Abdul Kalam (Wheeler) islands today morning. The Coast Guard and Marine Police rushed to the spot on being informed and assisted the rescuers to bring the 10 fishermen back ashore.
The 10 fishermen went fishing in the sea in the boat ‘Maa Padmavati’ belonging to a native of Dosinga village in Dhamra. While the exact cause behind the blaze is being ascertained, sources said, the engine of the fishing boat caught fire. Local police have initiated a probe into the mishap.
