Baripada: A man bludgeoned his friend to death over suspicion of the latter having an illicit relationship with his wife.
The gory incident has taken place at Kathachua village under Sarat police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The accused identified as Ratna Samad has been arrested. Police have seized the stick and stone used in the murder.
As per reports, Ratna of Kuntidiha village under Anandpur police limits accompanied by his friend Lala Biruli was on a visit to his in-laws’ place in Kathachua village.
Ratna suspecting Lala of having an illicit relationship with his wife thrashed him with a stick and then smashed his face with a stone. Then he dumped Lala’s body in the river nearby.
On Tuesday, the police recovered and seized the body from the river. During the course of its investigation, the police identified the body as that of Lala Biruli and came to know that he was murdered.
Police later arrested Ratna on charges of murdering his friend Lala. During interrogation, Ratna revealed to the police how and why he murdered his friend Lala.
Further investigation by the police into the matter is underway.
