Bhubaneswar: The Congress today announced Baba Harekrushna Sethi as its candidate for the bye-election to be held for the Dhamnagar assembly constituency.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for Sethi’s candidature, according to an official press release issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) today.
While BJP candidate Suryavanshi Suraj Sthitaprajna filed his nomination on Tuesday for the Dhamnangar by-poll scheduled to be held on November 3, the State’s ruling party-BJD is yet to announce its candidate.
The Dhamnagar assembly constituency seat fell vacant after BJP sitting MLA and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Bishnu Sethi’s death, necessitating the bye-election.
Suryavanshi Suraj is the son of the Late Bishnu Sethi who passed away on September 19 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
Bye-election to the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency is scheduled on November 3. While the last date for filing nominations is October 14, the counting of votes will be held on November 6.
