Bhubaneswar: Childline with the help of local police and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) foiled a child marriage which was taking place at the Sikharchandi temple here today.
According to a press note issued by Childline, the bride’s father has claimed that his daughter is a minor and is 15 years and five months old.
Both the bride and the groom belong to Bharatpur slum in the city.
The minor girl’s family migrated to the city from Aska in Ganjam district two and half years back.
A complaint has been lodged at the Infocity police station in this connection. The rescued girl was produced before the Additional Child Welfare Committee and by its order, she has been placed at Open Shelter for girls at Kalinga Vihar, the press note added.
