Bhubaneswar: A group of rationalists gathered here on Tuesday to relish chicken biriyani with their families. The group intended to dispel the myths of ‘no-food’ on solar eclipse day.
“We do not believe in all this. Science is so developed today, and we know that no one swallows sun. It is a celestial event which occurs when moon passes between sun and earth, thereby obscuring earth’s view of the sun,” a member of the group said.
The group members urged the public to shun superstitions and lead normal and natural life on solar or lunar eclipse days.
It may be noted that the year’s last solar eclipse will be visible for around 20 minutes in Odisha and other parts of the country.
There will be a partial solar eclipse today, starting at 2.28pm and ending at 5.32 pm. In Bhubaneswar, the celestial event will be visible for about 20 minutes from 4.56 pm to 5.16 pm.
