Keonjhar: The Forest department today suspended a Forester and issued show cause notices to a Range Officer and a Forest Guard in connection with the killing of a female elephant and its calf by a poisoned arrow near Kuliapal inside the Kalapat reserve forest under Telkoi forest range in Keonjhar district
According to reports, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Keonjhar, H D Dhanraj today suspended Forester Purna Chandra Mohanta and issued show-cause notices to the Range Officer of Telkoi forest range and a Forest guard.
Highly decomposed carcasses of a female elephant and her newborn calf were spotted by villagers who had gone to the forest to collect minor produce on November 7.
A broken arrow was recovered from the body of the female elephant during the autopsy. The arrow had passed through the stomach of the elephant and hit the uterus.
As a result, the baby elephant died in the womb. The mother elephant after giving birth to a premature dead calf died along with it.
