Kendrapada: The Police on Friday arrested three members of a puja committee in connection with the firecracker mishap at Balia Bazaar here two days back.
At least 40 people sustained severe burns in the firecracker blast during the Kartikeswar immersion ceremony in Balia Bazar area on Wednesday night.
According to sources, eight more persons are being questioned by Sadar police in this case. The mishap occured when a heap of firecrackers caught fire leading to an explosion.
All the injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Kendrapada. Around 33 people injured were initially treated at the DHH and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
As many as 10 critically injured persons, admitted to the the ICU at SCB MCH with 80 to 90% burns, are being treated by special team of doctors.
