Baripada: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly set ablaze a shop at Salachua village under Kaptipada police limits in Udala Sub-division of Mayurbhanj district after the shopkeeper asked the former to clear the outstanding dues.
According to reports, one Adikanda Barik of Salachua village was running a grocery shop in his village. A youth of the same village identified as Sanjay Jena used to take goods from Barik’s grocery shop on credit for months.
A few days back when Barik asked Jena to clear the outstanding amount against him, they had a quarrel. Allegedly Jena threatened Barik with dire consequences.
While Barik was sleeping inside his shop on Sunday night as usual on other days, some miscreant set Barik’s shop ablaze.
On sighting fire, Barik ran out of his shop to save his life and call fellow villagers to douse the flame from engulfing his shop.
Despite all efforts, the fire could not be tamed and by the time Fire Service personnel doused it, nothing was left of the shop.
Barik has lodged a complaint against Jena at the Kaptipada police station in this connection. The matter is under investigation by the police.
