Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik thanked people of Padampur for BJD’s huge victory in the bye-election.
Addressing the people of the assembly segment, Naveen said that this was the victory of people of Padampur. He also thanked the party workers for their efforts for the bypoll.
“The way a woman, an educated young woman, a woman grieving the loss of a father was disrespected by some of the state BJP leaders, it saddened me,” the Chief Minister said, referring to a slew of remarks on BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha by a few BJP leaders.
“Losing and winning in politics, contesting elections are different things. But to disrespect a woman like this is very reprehensible,” the BJD supremo said.
That’s why I decided, I myself will go and stand by Barsha Singh – like a father, like a brother, like a friend.
Naveen cautioned BJP’s state leaders to refrain from making remarks against women on the pretext of politics, ‘else people of Odisha will never support you’.
Slamming a couple of Union ministers for their statements during the bypoll campaign, Naveen said those were made to deceive the people of Odisha and Padampur.
“Be it housing scheme, GST for kendu leaves, crop insurance delay, MSP issue, or rail connectivity. This is extremely unfortunate. You are in the center, we are in the state. Let’s work together for people and the betterment of Odisha,” Naveen said.
“I am indebted to the people of Padampur and want to say that all the promises made to you will be fulfilled,” the CM concluded.
