Bhubaneswar: Against the backdrop of rising cases of Covid-19 in countries like Japan, the USA, the Republic of Korea, Brazil, and China, the Odisha government has sought the guidance and support of the Centre for re-commencing precaution dose vaccination of left-out citizens.
“…. requested to provide necessary guidance and support for recommencing precaution dose vaccination of left out citizens in government Covid-19 Vaccination Centers (CVCs),” wrote Commissioner-cum-Secretary Health & Family Welfare Shalini Pandit today in a letter addressed to the Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Pandit cited in her letter that out of 3.35 crore citizens aged 18 years and above eligible for precaution dose, only 1.31 core citizens have been vaccinated with precaution dose.
Still, 1.93 crore or 59 percent of citizens are yet to be vaccinated with precaution dose in the State, she added.
Sharing details of the vaccination programme in the State, Pandit stated in her letter that till date 8.14 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the State, of this 3.52 crore (97%) doses have been administered as the first dose and 3.30 crore (91%) doses as the second dose to beneficiaries aged 12 years and above and 1.31 crore (41%) doses administered as precaution dose to citizens aged 18 years and above in the State.
She has pointed out in the letter that all Covid-19 vaccines supplied by the Government of India have been utilized by the 28th of November and presently there is no stock of vaccine in the State.
