Cuttack: International sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik and his students have carved world’s biggest hockey stick on Mahanadi river bank.
The majestic piece has been built to welcome to FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 which will begin from January 13. The grand inaugural event for the tournament will be held at Barabati Stadium here on Wednesday (January 11).
“We have created World’s longest sand Hockey stick – 105ft long, with more than 5,000 hockey balls on Mahanadi river bank at Cuttack,” said Patnaik.
“The entire state is proud as Odisha is hosting the Hockey World Cup for the second time in a row. Everyone is welcoming the event in their own special way. We thought to make a sand art which is unique – the biggest hockey stick made of sand.” he added.
“Total 15 of my students joined me in making this which took us 2 days. We will send it to different global organisations and apply for a world record for this structure,” Patnaik said.
