Bhubaneswar: The Balangir police seized 46 cough syrup bottles and arrested three persons on Wednesday evening allegedly selling the medications without authorisation in the Khaprakhol and Patnagarh areas of the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by IIC Ramakant Sahu raided Dhandamuda village and arrested Ranadhir Panika on charges of selling cough syrup bottles illegally. The police also arrested Anand Patel from Patimal village in the same connection.
During interrogation, the duo revealed to the police that Ramesh Bag of Pattamunda village in the Patnagarh police station area had been supplying cough syrup to them. Subsequently, the police arrested Ramesh Bag.
Police seized 46 bottles of cough syrup and 10 intoxicating tablets, Rs 1,300 and a motorcycle from their possession. According to police, the accused persons had been selling cough syrups to people who use the drugs as alcoholic drinks.
The arrested have been forwarded to courts and further investigations are on.
