Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths today arrested one Shyam Sundar Bal, a Senior Assistant-cum-In Charge Accountant in the office of the Project Director, Watershed, Kalahandi for taking a bribe.
According to an official press release, based on a complaint, officials of the the anti-graft agency nabbed Bal while he was demanding and accepting bribe amounting to Rs 60,000 from a Soil Conservation Extension Worker (complainant) for processing pending bills for release of payment as well as payment made earlier towards old bills.
The agency has recovered the entire bribe amount from the accused and seized it, the release added.
The Vigilance has registered a case against Bal under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched in four locations connected with Bal to trace his disproportionate assets if any. Further investigation in the matter is underway, the release said.
