Cuttack: The Gurudijhatia police today evening handed over the body of Odisha woman cricketer Rajashree Swain to her family members after conduct of autopsy at the SCB Medical College & Hospital here.
Police said that Rajashree’s cause of death will be only known after the autopsy report is available.
On the other hand, the woman cricketer’s father Gobinda Swain has alleged that his daughter has been murdered.
Gobinda has filed a complaint at Mangalabag police station here alleging that his daughter was murdered.
“She has been murdered and then hanged. There were injury marks on her face. Two-three months back she had told that four of them were being harassed by the OCA people. I have filed a complaint at the Mangalabag police station that my daughter has been murdered,” said Gobinda speaking to reporters here.
He however, said that he has complete faith in the police and would surely get justice.
Earlier in the day, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) had come out with a clarification rubbishing allegations of irregularities in the players’ selection process at the Bajrakabati selection camp.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OCA Subrat Behera had said that they are shocked over the news of Rajashree’s death.
He said that in her death OCA has lost one of its registered players.
While stating that in sports there is always a win or a loss, Behera requested sportspersons against taking such extreme step.
He said that there was no anomaly in the selection process. Selection is made on the basis of current performance and past records, he added.
He informed that Rajashree was among the 25 players selected in the first round. She was not there among the 16 players who found place in the second round.
The 16-member team was selected for the first 3 matches.
Worth mentioning, on Wednesday last Rajashree had left the Bajrakabati camp informing the organisers that she is leaving for her home.
However, she never reached home and her mobile phone was switched off.
Following the development OCA lodged a missing person complaint with the Mangalabag police.
Mangalabag police on the basis of her mobile phone’s last location tried to trace her whereabouts.
On Thursday police found her scooter and helmet in an abandoned state in Brahmanbasta forest under Gurudijhatia police limits in Athagarh sub-division of Cuttack district.
Today her body was found hanging inside the Brahmanbasta forest.
