Puri: A boat ferrying about 20 persons and vehicles from Satpada to Janipuda got stranded in the midst of Chilika Lake, the largest brackish water later in Asia, on Monday morning. According to sources, the incident occurred owing to thick fog over the lake dipping the visibility drastically.
While details of the incident are awaited, it is worth mentioning here that this is the second such incident in Chilika Lake in the last three days. On January 15, another boat ferrying about 25 devotees to Kalijai Island, considered to be the abode of Goddess Kalijai the presiding deity of fishermen, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. In this case, too, the boatman was unable to see the direction of the temple owing to dense fog.
The movement of boats was suspended by the authorities temporarily after the incident.
