Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a woman in the Sriram Nagar under the Madhupatna police station area of Cuttack committed suicide allegedly after killing her son on Monday morning.
According to reports, the woman allegedly strangled her two-year-old stepson before hanging herself to death. However, it is still not clear what led the woman to take such drastic steps.
On being informed, Madhupatna police reached the spot and recovered the bodies of the woman and her minor son. The police sent the bodies for post-mortem and started an investigation into the incident. According to the police, the woman’s husband is from the Salepur area of Cuttack and was not at home during the incident.
On Monday morning, when the woman did not open the door, neighbours got suspicious. They informed the relatives of the family who broke open the door. On opening the door, they found the woman hanging from the ceiling, while the child was lying in a pool of blood.
Police suspect that the incident could be a fall-out of a bitter family dispute. The couple had regular fights and were not staying together for the last eight months. Talking to the media, the woman’s husband said, “Despite my efforts, my wife refused to stay with me. She used to live near her parents and they tortured me often. I had even lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.”
The Cuttack DCP said that a scientific team was examining various aspects and they are trying to ascertain the reason behind the deaths and that everything will be clear soon.
