Bhubaneswar: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday arrested the second accused in connection with the alleged gang-rape of two minor girls at Patia railway station in Odisha capital from the Padanpur area in Banki.
The second accused, identified as Bulu Mallik, was trying to escape from the state when he was nabbed By the GRP. The GRP had earlier arrested the prime accused, Krushna Mallick (23), alias Kanha.
A senior GRP official said, “We have arrested one more accused after three joint teams were formed. After getting credible information, we carried out a raid and nabbed him.”
As per procedure, the police will now record the statements of both the survivors and interrogate the two accused, the official added.
The accused were on the run after committing the crime and had run out of money. They were reportedly near Nandankanan and nearby areas for the past couple of days.
It is worth mentioning here that the accused kidnapped two minor girls aged 12 years and 14 years to a railway over-bridge and took them to a railway over-bridge at Patia in Bhubaneswar and gang-raped them on the night of January 16.
The accused also allegedly threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed the incident to others. However, the matter came to light when the girls reached home the next morning and informed their family members.
