Mayurbhanj: A two-wheeler rider was killed, while several people sustained varying degrees of injuries in a series of accidents wherein a van hit three motorcycles one after another at Nakuda under Karanjia police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Bishwajit Mahant, is an employee of the Odisha Forest department.
According to sources, the accident occurred when Mahant was returning home from Badagaon riding his motorbike completing his day’s work at his office at Dudhiani. His vehicle was hit by a speeding van coming from the opposite direction and he died on the spot.
After hitting Mahant, the driver of the van lost control of the wheel and hit two other bikes, injuring three others. The injured have been admitted to the Karanjia hospital.
While the police reached the accident site and launched an investigation, the van managed to flee the spot.
