Balasore: A half-naked body of a middle-aged woman was found hanging from a tree in Patna village under Kochia Koili Panchayat in Balasore district of Odisha on Tuesday evening. It is suspected that the woman was subsequently hanged from the tree.
The deceased has been identified as Jayanthi Sheal, wife of Jagbandhu Sheal, a resident of Patna village. Jayanthi had gone to fetch firewood from a nearby field on Tuesday afternoon but did not return till evening. Thereafter, her minor son went out to search for his mother after returning from school and found Jayanthi’s dead body hanging from a tree. He rushed home to inform his family about the incident.
Jayanti’s son stated that when he reached the place, a man threw a towel on his face and ran away. Hence, the family members suspect that Jayanti has been murdered. Sadar SDPO and IIC are investigating the incident.
Jayanti’s son told the police that when he reached the place he saw a man cover his face with a towel and fled the spot. This led the family members to suspect that Jayanti was murdered.
Meanwhile, Arjun Behra, Jayanthi’s son-in-law, said that unidentified miscreants were threatening Jayanthi for the last few days. They used to come and knock on the door of their house at night and one day even broke the window. Behera, however, could not identify the miscreants or say why they were intimidating his mother-in-law.
Sadar SDPO Shasanka Sekhara Beura, Sora IIC Sujata Khamari reached the spot on being informed and seized the body. They sent the body for post-mortem and started an investigation.
