Bhubaneswar: All Government vehicles under different Government Departments, State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Organizations, Autonomous Councils, ULBs etc. above 15 years of age are to be mandatorily scrapped through a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) on or before March 31 this year.
Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport Department Usha Padhee has written a letter to Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries/Commissioner-cum-Secretaries/ Secretaries of all departments in this regard.
Padhee quoted a notification of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which says that the certificate of registration in respect of a motor vehicle owned by the State Government, ULBs, PSUs/ Corporations established, owned or controlled by the State Government, shall expire after the lapse of fifteen years from the date of initial registration of the vehicle.
Further the certificate of registration of government vehicle if already renewed, such certificate shall be treated as cancelled on completion of fifteen years from the date of initial registration of the vehicle, Padhee added quoting from the notification.
“It is therefore requested that all the above categories of vehicles of your Department, Heads of Departments, sub-ordinate Offices, PSUs, Organizations, Autonomous Councils, ULBs etc. under your administrative control may be scrapped on or before 31st March,2023 in the RVSF Centers established in the State. After scrapping, the fact may be brought to the notice of concerned RTO for cancellation of registration of those vehicles. The final status of scrapping of vehicles may please be intimated to this Department by 31.03.2023,” the letter stated.
The Principal Secretary has informed in the letter to contact Sanjaya Kumar Biswal, Joint Commissioner Transport who is the nodal officer in this regard for the State in the matter to facilitate the process.
