Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition seeking a CBI probe into the murder of former Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, who was gunned down by ASI Gopal Krushna Das at Brajarajnagar in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on January 29 last.
The High Court issued the directive while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed on behalf of a social organisation – the Bharat Bikash Parishad. In its PIL, filed by lawyer Shivsankar Mohanty on Monday, the Parishad had appealed to the court to direct the state government to order a CBI investigation into the former minister’s killing.
The Parishad had raised questions on the effectiveness of the Crime Branch’s investigation into the crime as the accused in the case is a policeman. The Parishad had made the state Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP, CBI and the Crime Branch parties in the case.
