Bhubaneswar: An under-trial prisoner lodged at Madanpur Rampur sub-jail in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on charges of attempt to murder, allegedly fled the prison on Monday morning.
The undertrial prisoner identified as Biswamitra Majhi is a resident of Rupra road under the Narla police station limits in Kalahandi district. It is suspected that the prisoner escaped from the jail by scaling the boundary wall.
The matter came to the light when the jail employees were checking the attendance record. They alerted the jailer and a frantic search was launched for the absconding fugitive. The jail authorities have lodged a complaint with the M Rampur police. Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and are on the lookout for the fugitive prisoner.
Majhi was arrested for beating up his wife and family members and sent to Madanpur Rampur sub-jail.
