Cuttack: Opposition BJP and Congress corporators of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) staged a night-long protest outside the office of the civic body demanding the transfer of the chief executive engineer. They also demanded the withdrawal of a Bill that was passed in their absence.
Cuttack Mayor Subas Singh and Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim talked to the protestors last night in an attempt to dissuade them from continuing the agitation but the latter turned down the request on the ground that the CMC Commissioner Nikhil Pawan Kalyan did not attend the discussion.
On Monday, BJP and Congress corporators created a ruckus during the 8th Council Meeting of Cuttack Municipal Corporation over various issues.
Congress corporators alleged that neither the Congress MLAs from the Barbati-Cuttack constituencies were invited to the inauguration of various projects in the region, nor were their names mentioned on the plaques. The BJP corporators supported the allegations made by Congress.
After the meeting, both Congress and BJP corporators first sat in a protest inside the House and subsequently moved the protest outside the House.
The opposition corporators also expressed their displeasure over the actions taken by a certain executive engineer. The said chief engineer has been serving in the CMC for 30 long years.
