Keonjhar: In a bizarre incident reported from the district, a man has abandoned his wife after she underwent a family planning surgery. The woman, mother to 10 children from her husband, has been forced to take shelter under a mango tree outside her house with the kids.
The case has been reported from Dimiria village in Saleikena panchayat in Telkoi block of Keonjhar district. The man identified as Rabi Dehury is not allowing her wife, Janaki and children inside home ever since she underwent the tubectomy procedure.
The surgery was done at a family planning camp held at Telkoi community health centre on February 14. According to reports, Janaki was delivering one baby every year, and had grown very weak. After consulting her trusted ones, she decided to go for the surgery.
The coupld were parents to 11 children out of which one baby died recently. Now, the situation of Janaki is dire as she underwent a surgery and she needs care and comfort. But thanks to the superstition at its heights, she has become impure after the operation, according to her husband Rabi.
The man says that his wife has lost the sanctity to conduct ‘Shraddh’ rituals for forefathers, ‘she is impure’. Even after the locals and Asha workers tried to convince the man, he is getting aggressive with a bow and arrow, and scaring away people who come close to him.
Suffering because of the nonsensical thoughts her husband, poor Janaki and her 10 children are left to fend for themselves under a mango tree, in open air.
