Nayagarh: In a heinous crime, a divyang (especially-abled) youth was allegedly beaten to death in Patharapunja village under Daspalla police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district by his father and stepmother after he expressed his desire to get married.
The deceased has been identified as Bijay Pradhan. Villagers first rushed the critically injured to Daspalla community health center and as his condition deteriorated he was taken to the Nayagarh District Health Center. Later, he was shifted to a medical facility where the divyang youth breathed his last.
According to sources, Bijay (35) was physically disabled and he expressed his to get married to his family members. All his relatives wanted him to get married and settle down in life but his stepmother did not want him to get married as she feared he would claim all the property after marriage.
Angry over Bijay, his stepmother allegedly beat him up and deprived him of food for months. A fight broke out over the issue once again on Saturday night and his infuriated stepmother allegedly beat him up severely leading to his death.
According to sources, the woman was allegedly helped by her husband and own sons. However, the stepmother refuted the allegations and said that she was being falsely implicated by her relatives.
The deceased’s uncle informed the police about the incident and a probe is on into the brutal incident.
