Gajapati: In a distressing incident, the body of a Class IX girl student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Betaguda in Odisha’s Gajapati district was found hanging in her hostel room in the school premises on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Soudamini Raita.
According to sources, Soudamini and her younger sister were studying at the school. Like everyday, all the girl students went to bed after their food on Sunday night.
According to reports, Soudamini was found hanging at around 5:00 am when her friends went to call her for the PT class. She was rushed to the Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital, Gajapati, where doctors declared her brought dead. School authorities said that Sudhamini committed suicide as she was under immense pressure due to her exams.
However, Soudamini’s family members alleged foul play.
On being informed, police arrived in the school, sent the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation.
A pall of gloom has descended in the area following the news of the incident spread.
While the exact reason behind her suicide is yet to be known, school Headmistress said Soudamini was a good student.
