Nuapada: Vehicular traffic was disrupted on NH 353 in Khariar block of Odisha’s Nuapada district on Monday as angry villagers staged a road blockade following the death of a five-year-old girl who was crushed to death by a speeding truck.
The deceased was identified as Dimple Sunani, daughter of one Hara Sunani of Sanamaheshwar village in Khariar police limits here.
According to reports, the killer truck was heading towards Raipur from Khariar in great speed when Dimple was crossing the road and came under the vehicle’s wheels. Dimple died on the spot while the truck sped away after the accident.
Angry villagers chased the vehicle up to 1 km and managed to detain it at Badamaheshwar. However, the driver managed to flee the spot.
Meanwhile, angry locals blocked the highway and demanded adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased. On being informed, Khariar police reached the spot and tried to assuage the agitators. The situation was brought under control after three hours.
A case has been registered in this connection and investigation is underway.
