Balasore: A woman has sustained critical burns after being attacked with acid by her husband here on Monday. The woman, identified as Banita, a native of Bhimpura area in Remuna, has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
According to the reports, Banita got married to one Chandan Rana of Santaragadia village in Oupada tehsil of the district, recently. However, Banita returned to her village and started staying with her sister Barsha after realising that Chandan was already married and has kids.
Today morning, Chandan showed up at Barsha’s house with an acid bottle and threatened Banita to leave the place and come and stay with him. Banita confronted her husband and disapproved of his demand. Following this, in a fit of rage, Chandan threw acid at his Banita.
While the woman sustained critical burns in the attack, her sister Barsha and the latter’s two minor children sustained injuries. Chandan fled from the spot immediately following the barbaric act.
Balasore police registered a case in this connection and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. With the help of neighbours, Banita and the rest of the three were rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH).
While Barsha and her minor children are undergoing treatment at the DHH, Banita was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in an ambulance equipped with advanced life support. An ASI of Balasore police accompanied the para-medical team in the vehicle to SCB Cuttack, the police said.
