Bhubaneswar: With the mercury level rising gradually, Bhubaneswar recorded the hottest day of the season. The mercury shot up to 38°C on Wednesday recording the highest day temperature in the state so far.
The highest maximum temperature of 38.0°C was recorded at Bhubaneswar and the lowest minimum temperature of 13.4°C was recorded at Rourkela in the plains of Odisha.
The day temperature in the capital city was 5°C above normal. Bhubaneswar had last seen a sharp rise in the mercury level on February 23, 2019, when the day temperature was recorded at 39.4°C. In 2020, the city recorded the highest day temperature of 34.6°C.
On February 26, 2021, the maximum temperature in the city touched 40.4°C – the highest for February in the last 58 years. An all-time high of 42.7°C was recorded on February 23, 1963.
According to IMD, dry weather conditions will prevail across the state for the next five days with no large change in the night temperature. The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar will hover between 35°C and 36°C till February 27.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for dense at one or two places over Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Bhadrak districts. Otherwise dry weather will prevail across the state for the next five days.
In its forecast for Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood for the next 24 hours, IMD said fog/mist will prevail in the morning and the sky will be mainly clear. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital city are likely to be around 38°C and 22°C respectively.
