Bhubaneswar: The barrages constructed over river Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh have obstructed water flowing downstream into Odisha, said Minister Tukuni Sahu in a written reply in the Odisha Assembly today.
In response to a question raised by BJD MLA Souvic Biswal, the Minister said that Chhattisgarh has constructed as many as 8 barrages in Mahanadi’s upstream. “In the last 3 years, from 2019 to 2022, the water flow in Hirakud reservoir during the non-monsoon period was 1.596 million acre-foot,” she said.
The barrages in Chhattisgarh over Mahanadi are: Rudri, Nishad, Samda, Siyori Narayan, Basantpur, Mironi, Saradihi and Kalma, the written reply of the Minister noted.
