Bhubaneswar: The re-assembling of the iconic vintage Dakota (DC-3) aircraft flown by legendary aviator and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik is nearing completion.
The vintage aircraft which was part of the daredevil aviator’s heroic tales will be unveiled for public viewing by his son Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the former’s birth anniversary on March 5, reports said.
The aircraft will be displayed for public viewing on 1.1 acres of land allotted for the purpose by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.
According to Aerospace Research and Development Center which has been entrusted with re-assembly of the Dakota by the Odisha government, the re-assembling and beautification work will be completed latest by March 3.
The company also looked after the transportation of the aircraft from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar. The dismantled pieces of the aircraft was brought to Bhubaneswar on January 18 in three lorries from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata.
After re-assembly the vintage aircraft will be placed on pedestal for display.
