Puri: Senior journalist Gajendra Maharana passed away on Sunday at Amri Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Maharana was sick and under treatment for the last month.
However, he recovered and returned home last week but he fell ill again on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to Bhubaneswar Amri Hospital for treatment where he breathed his last in the ICU at 8:49 pm.
Gajendra Maharana has been working as a journalist with the vernacular news daily Sambad in various districts of Odisha for several years. After his retirement, Maharana settled in Puri in 2000 as the district representative of another vernacular daily – Prameya. He has been serving the newspaper till the end.
Maharana was well-known and popular in the media circle. As the news of the death broke, a pall of gloom descended on the Media Center here.
Maharana’s only son Abhilash Maharana, his nephew Gopal Maharana and friends were beside him when the end came. He will be cremated at the Swargadwar here.
