Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia actor Pintu Nanda passed away at 11.25 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Nanda was suffering from liver cirrhosis and doctors attending him had advised liver transplantation.
He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi for some days but had to be flown to Hyderabad last week for further treatment. The actor was admitted to Hyderabad’s Yasoda Hospital as no donor was available at New Delhi’s Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS).
According to reports, a family member was supposed to donate their liver to Pintu, but that did not work out owing to a mismatch of blood groups and various other reasons. Before another donor could be arranged, Nanda breathed his last on Wednesday night.
Earlier in the day, Odia actor Sritam Das tweeted, “Pintu Nanda’s condition is not good. He needs blessings from everyone”. Das also shared pictures of the Ollywood actor undergoing treatment at the Yashoda Hospital and a medical certificate from the hospital stating details of the diagnosis, advice and approximate expenditure for the treatment.
A pall of gloom descended on the Ollywood fraternity as the news of Nanda’s death spread.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote, “I am saddened to know about the demise of Pintu Nanda, a popular actor in the Odia film world. The impression he left in movies and serials with his impeccable performances will always leave him memorable in the hearts of the audience. May his soul rest in peace and condolences to the bereaved family.”
The actor’s body will reach Bhubaneswar today evening. His last rites will most probably be performed tomorrow at Swargadwara in Puri.
