Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, a Class VIII student of Dengula High School in Koida block of Odisha’s Sundergarh district succumbed to his burn injuries on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Galet Hannga
The incident occurred on March 6 when boiling dal (pulses) fell on the student the utensil containing the hot dal slipped from the minor’s hands while removing it from the oven. The student sustained critical burn injuries and was admitted to Koida Community Health Center for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital in Rourkela.
He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday.
Incidentally, though the incident occurred on March 6, it came to the light after the death of the student today. The incident has raised numerous eyebrows as people are wondering why a student should cook his meal in the hostel of a government-run school. Secondly, questions are also being raised as to why the school authorities kept the incident under wrap and the matter came to light a week after the student was injured.
Locals have alleged the students are often engaged in cooking work at the school’s hostel and demanded an investigation into the matter.
