Sambalpur: The Intelligence Wing of the Excise Department today busted a spurious IMFL (India Made Foreign Liquor) manufacturing unit in a rented house at Bishalkhinda village under Sasan police limits in Sambalpur district.
While Excise Department officials arrested the house owner Saroj Behera, the mastermind operating the illegal unit Goldie managed to flee.
Acting on a tip-off, Excise Department officials raided the place and seized 450 litres of spirit, 30 litres of blender spirit, 16,200 litres of fake IMFL, 135 nos. of labels of high-priced liquor brands, 5 litres of caramel, 10,452 nos. of fake sealing caps and machine used for fixing caps to bottles.
Sources said the arrestee Saroj is a well-educated person and used to work as a private tutor.
The unit had been operating in the rented house for around nine months and the spurious liquor manufactured at the unit was being supplied to shops in different places of the Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.
