Bhubaneswar: In one of the rare celestial conjunctions on Friday night, planet Venus was visibly hiding behind the Moon in the sky. The event was clearly visible in naked eye in a cloudless Bhubaneswar sky. The two planets, miles apart, aligned together in a symmetrical line, making it a rare and picturesque sight. People in the city tried their best to capture the sight on their mobile cameras, and there were numerous social media posts highlighting the event
Venus is one of the brightest planet in the Solar System because if reflects 70% of sunlight back and is also the closest to Planet Earth. As Venus & Moon aligned in the same line, the former looked slowly disappearing behind the dark edges of Moon. As the Moon came in between Earth & Venus, the brightness of latter was expected to be curtailed by nearly 250 times.
