Jajpur: Rosalin Patra, an 18-year-old girl student of Government Polytechnic at Ragadi in Odisha’s Jajpur district, was found hanging in her room in Biraja women’s hostel on Tuesday.
The deceased was a resident of Sendhapur under Jenapur police limits and studying in her third year at the institute.
According to principal Rajendra Patra, her friends found Rosalin hanging from a ceiling fan in her room on Tuesday morning.
On being informed, police reached the hostel and seized her body. While the precise reason behind Rosalin’s death is yet to be ascertained, it is an apparent case of suicide, police said.
However, Rosalin’s family members alleged that she was a victim of constant ragging and it could have prompted her to take the extreme step. They blamed a hostel warden for the incident.
Jajpur SDPO Sanjay Kumar Patnaik and Korei IIC Sanghamitra Mallick are conducting an investigation into the death.
