OMFED Milk To Cost Rs 2 Extra Per Packet From April 1

Bhubaneswar: Here is some bad news for consumers. They will be required to pay more for milk marketed by the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) which has increased the price of a 500 ml packet of milk by Rs 2 from April 1, 2023.

While the price of a packet of 500 ml OMFED Toned Milk will increase from Rs 21 to Rs 23, Premium Milk will cost Rs 26 instead of Rs 24, Gold Milk price has been raised from Rs 24 to 26 and Chai Special Milk from Rs 23 to Rs 25.

A statement issued by the OMFED on Thursday read the increase in milk price is due to the rise in prices of various substances and supplies related to milk production. These include electricity tariff, packaging, transportation and fodder.

“It is important to note that 90 per cent of the cost of OMFED milk sales goes towards milk procurement. As a responsible organisation, OMFED has consistently worked towards providing fair prices to milk producers, thereby ensuring the sustainability of milk production and availability of quality milk to consumers at affordable prices,” the OMFED said in its press release.

It added, “Consumer costs have also increased with an increase in ancillary costs as well as operational costs of packaging, marketing, etc. Despite higher prices for milk purchases, consumer prices were kept intact by OMFED over the past year.”
