Nuapada: The man-eater leopard has again dragged a calf from a cattle shed at Pabartola village under the Sadar block of Odisha’s Nuapada district on Monday night.
According to reports, the animal’s carcass belonging to one Chitti Ram Satnami was found on Tuesday morning giving rise to fresh panic and apprehension in the region. Villagers informed the Forest department officials that the animal was mauled by the leopard seen in the area two days ago.
Leopards had already devoured two calves two days ago at Belardana and Sirili villages in the Komna block of the district. One calf belonged to Arjun Dharua of Belardana, while the other belonged to Gopinath Majhi of Sirili village.
Komna ranger Debadatta Sutar and Forest officials visited the spot after the incident and found pug marks.
On March 25, the leopard killed a calf belonging to a villager of Kodapali under Dharambandha police limits while it was grazing in the nearby forest. Later, during the investigation, Forest officials found pug marks of a wild animal.
Altogether 16 domestic animals and an elderly woman have been killed by the leopard in the district in the last month. Over six domestic animals and an old lady, identified as Sanamati Barik (65), of Jalamadhei village under Komna block have fallen victim to the big cat.
