Cuttack: In a major breakthrough, Cuttack police on Sunday arrested a murder accused who has been absconding for over two years concealing his identity as a sadhu.
Addressing a press meet, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said that Pushpalata Behera, wife of Prakash Behera of Alishabazar under Lalbag police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district, lodged a complaint that one of her workers Mukesh arrived at her residence in an injured condition on September 2, 2020, and informed that some armed miscreants were chasing her husband to kill the latter. Pushpalata along with her relatives immediately set out in search of her husband Prakash Behera who was found profusely bleeding and found him near IPSAR College. They rushed him to the SBC Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The Bidanasi police in Cuttack registered a case under Section 302/32 IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act and arrested one Santanu in connection with the crime. However, the prime accused, Dipak Mallick was absconding.
“The police did not close this case and kept the search to find Dipak Mallick. Finally, his whereabouts were traced on Saturday and he was arrested. We are forwarding him to the court today,” the DCP said.
Prakash was living in a place under Hindol police station limits in the Dhenkanal district concealing his identity as a sadhu to avoid arrest. Prakash had taken up a pseudo name as Mahima Alekha.
