Malkangiri: Once a Maoist-affected area, Malkangiri in Odisha has come a long way in merging with the mainstream. So much so that now film producers are seeking permission to shoot their blockbusters in this picturesque region.
Recently, Hyderabad-based Mythri Move Makers Pvt Ltd, a leading film production house of the country, has written to the Malkangiri administration seeking permission to shoot some sequences of the sequel to its super hit movie ‘Pushpa-2’ in the Swabhiman Anchal of the district. Already a team from the production house, including fight master Peter Hynes, art director Ramakrishna, fight master Dragon Prakash, assistant sponsor Subramaniam and co-director Prasad Marisetti are in Malkangiri to select locations for the upcoming movie.
In its letter to Malkangiri District Collector Vishal Singh and SP Nitesh Wadhwani, Mythri Movie Makers has sought permission to shoot video clips at the Chitrakonda spillway, the hanging bridge, an under-construction bridge and Sapradhara river among other places in the Swabhiman Anchal. “It would be great if you permit us to use drone cameras for the shooting … we will strictly use the drone footage only for shooting purposes,” the letter reads.
According to the producers of the film, if granted permission, the shooting will commence in the region in the first week of May.
While the district Malkangiri administration is yet to respond to the request, it will be a great achievement for the residents as well as the authorities of the district if the team really shoots ‘Pushpa-2’ starring Telugu superstar Allu Arjun and leading ladies Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Rashmika Mandana in the Swabhiman Anchal.
It is worth mentioning here that the region was virtually cut off from the rest of the state owing to a lack of communication as well as the Maoist menace. Over the years, the construction of roads and bridges has not only made the region easily accessible but also led to a decline in extremist activities in the region.
