Bhubaneswar: Dry and hot air is entering Odisha from the western and northwestern parts of the country, because of which moisture content in the atmosphere has reduced. This system resulted in a sizzling Monday and the effects will continue over the next four to five days said Senior Scientist Umasankar Das of IMD, Bhubaneswar.
Today, Baripada recorded a maximum daytime temperature of 40 degrees Celcius which is the highest in the ongoing summer season so far. There is a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal which led to norwester rains in southern parts of the state.
The condition in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack was close to ‘not bearable’. The streets wore a deserted look after 12 pm as the temperature shot up and the accompanying hot winds made the situation scary. Several other towns and cities of the State witnessed similar conditions.
“The ‘Kaal Baisakhi’ rains will taper down over the next four to five days, and the onset of summer will commence. “From April 13, the temperature will rise by 2 to 3 degrees across the State, but we have not issued any heatwave warning so far. The conditions will however be scorching during the second half of April, said Das.
