Orange Warning For Heat Wave Issued For 4 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has issued an orange warning for heat wave conditions at some places in Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Cuttack, and Jharsuguda districts of Odisha on Friday and warned people to deal with the condition by taking precautionary measures.

“The heat is tolerable for the general public but of slight health concern for vulnerable people such as infants, the elderly, and sick people. It is advised to avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration,” the IMD said in its advisory.

At the same time, the weather office has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Rayagada, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Kandhamal and dry weather likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

Yellow warnings for heat wave conditions have been issued for some places in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, and Boudh districts on Saturday.

It has also light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Puri, and dry weather in the remaining districts.

A yellow warning for heat wave conditions has also been issued for some places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts on Sunday.

There is unlikely to be any major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next 36 hours and a gradual fall by 2°C to 4 during the subsequent two days. Maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be 40°C or more and above normal by 3°C – 5°C at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Meanwhile, heat wave conditions prevailed at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Khurda, and Mayurbhanj districts, while dry weather prevailed in the remaining districts of Odisha. The maximum temperatures observed no large change over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly above normal at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably above normal at a few places over the districts of Odisha, above normal at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha, at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 44.5°C was recorded at Baripada and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.50°C was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.
