Bhubaneswar: A team of the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF), which is on the hunt for Guddu Muslim, a close aide of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed, visited Bargarh on Thursday to verify specific details related to the criminal.
Confirming this, IG Deepak Kumar told the media on Friday that the UP STF had visited Bargarh and sought the help of the local police in their probe into the case related to Guddu Muslim and made some verifications as per the provisions in the CrPC.
The team visited a number of places in the Bargarh district. However, IG Deepak Kumar refused to divulge further details regarding the STF’s visit.
When asked in the UP STF had made any arrests, the IG replied in the negative. He, however, did not rule out the possibility of the STF seizing specific items and taking them with them to Uttar Pradesh for their probe.
An IANS report says that the UP Police found Guddu’s last location in Odisha and this could be the reason why the STF team visited Bargarh yesterday.
Earlier, national media had reported that the gangster had taken shelter in Odisha’s Puri district. However, the police are yet to confirm the same.
It is worth mentioning here that Guddu Muslim, the man who bombed Umesh Pal to death on February 24 in Prayagraj, is now the most wanted criminal in the state.
Interestingly, while the police are frantically looking for the 50-year-old bomber, supporters of slain Atiq Ahmad are also eyeing him with suspicion and claim that he was the one who gave leads to the police about Asad, leading to his encounter.
Guddu Muslim’s name came into focus after the murder of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj.
